CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Bathilda Betty Bagshot
Age/DOB: November 23 1830/78 (nearly 79)
House/Year of Graduation: Ravenclaw/1847
Bloodline: Halfblood (Pureblood Mother/Halfblood Father)
Affiliation During the War: Neutral/Light (didn't participate but was killed by Voldemort/Nagini)
Occupation: Author
Sexuality: Straight
Marital Status: Widowed (goes by her maiden name now)
Family Tree: Mother: Betty Nott
Father: Edward Bagshot
Sister: Maree Bagshot- later Maree Grindewald
Great-Nephew: Gellert Grindewald
History: Born on November 23 1830 Bathilda Betty was the first child born to Betty Nott and Edward Bagshot. Growing up she was looked down on for having a muggleborn grandfather (Edward's father was muggleborn) as well as having a disowned mother (for marrying a halfblood) as during those years Pureblood supremacy was quite common throughout Britain, despite this her parents loved her greatly as did her father's family.
When she was five her sister Maree was born but was quite sickly as she was three months premature. It was then that she started to show that she was spoilt- she didn't like the fact that her family was focusing on someone else other than her. After a few months she realised this was futile so she slowly took refuge in the library and taught herself how to read. That was when she discovered her passion for books. The next few months improved her relationship with her sister and parents as Maree started to improve health wise and Bathilda made an effort to not exclude her sister.
When she was seven her grandmother started to teach her to cook, knit and other lady-like activities which she enjoyed though she wasn't all that good at it. Her grandmother said it was because of her age and that she would improve in time and indeed she did improve in time but only enough to get by.
By the time she turned eleven and received her Hogwarts letter she had grown to be close friends with her sister Maree as well as further her love of books. It was around that time that she decided she wanted to go against what was expected of females of that time and become an author- much to her parent's shock. When she arrived at Hogwarts she was sorted into Ravenclaw along with three other girls and four boys- it was one of the larger groups of students at Hogwarts with other years average six students per house as many families preferred to home school their children. She quickly took to her subjects though she didn't overly achieve in them with the exception of being History of Magic which she had always been quite passionate about.
A reasonably quiet girl preferring to spend time with her books instead of people resulted in her not having many friends but the couple she did have she was quite close to. By the beginning of her fifth year she was an outcast and her friends no longer hung around her due to her somewhat obsessive fascination with History and the fact that she was half-blood and not recognised as part of a pureblood family which was looked down upon during that time, so she spent even more time in the library than she previously did. Graduating from Hogwarts in 1847 she had O's in History of Magic, the equivalent to a home economics class- rather surprisingly and A's in the rest of her subjects (Defence, Charms, Transfiguration).
When she arrived home her parents announced that they had arranged a marriage for her to one Charles Bones the second child of the Bone's cousin line. While Charles was a Pureblood he wasn't expected to go great distances- he was a second child and of the cousin line so his parents tended to over look him. While they weren't close they did become good friends- they had to as they were constantly living together. Their first child Isabelle Bathilda Bones was born two years later. Over the next ten years they had four more children- Edward Charles, Maxwell Phineas and Helena Amelia.
Over the years their marriage was a peaceful one it also did her well as she became more of a people person and made quite a few friends in their town of Godric's Hollow. Charles allowed Bathilda to continue her writing and fifteen years after their marriage her first history book was published. She then published a succession of other history books that became popular within the Wizarding World. She also undertook the writing of a book about Pureblood Traditions for the Muggleborn and Halfblood. While some people frowned upon this it did become popular over time.
Six years later in the summer 1870, Godric's Hollow the town they were living in was swept by influenza killing her husband and four children over the course of those three months. Leaving her devastated she buried herself in her writing and over the course of the next ten years wrote the first edition of seven books known as The History of Magic that eventually became the class books for the History of Magic class at Hogwarts.
In 1880 the Dumbledore family moved to Godric's Hollow after their father Percivel was arrested for attacking the muggles who attacked Ariana. Bathilda tried to befriend Kendra but she didn't want her friendship so instead befriended Albus who she viewed as a prodigy after seeing an article on Transfiguration he wrote in Transfiguration Today.
During the summer of 1889 she took in her great-nephew Gellert Grindewald who had just been expelled from Hogwarts and had decided to introduce him to Albus who she believed was missing the company of young men his own age.
She appeared on the ship just as she was getting ready for Gellert's arrival
Occupational History: While she has never had an official job she has written numerous books including The History of Magic which is used by Hogwarts.
Goals: To keep her family safe, to research history, to see young people properly educated and to live a fulfilling life.
Appearance: Standing at just less than 5 foot her hair has already greying from its rich black colour which it was during her younger years. Her eyes are a pale blue colour though they aren't in the best condition- medical treatment for that sort of thing was rather rare at that time. She is short sighted though her eyes are starting to deteriorate to the point that she always has to wear glasses now. Her body is rather plump from staying at home all the time and her love of cooking.
Special Abilities/Powers: Is quite a proficient researcher (she wrote the History Of Magic Books which are used by Hogwarts) but apart from that she is fairly average at magic
Personality: A friendly person, Bathilda is rather quite and despite that prefers a good book over people though as she grew older though she spent more time with her friends and family than she did reading though she still wrote her books. While she can be sometimes obsessive about some things (History, Family, Friends) she is over all a friendly person who goes out of their way to befriend people- often by bringing around homemade food even if it isn't the best out there.
As she has gotten older she has developed a tendency to ramble and get side tracked. She will start saying something then go onto a different topic that is slightly related by maybe a person or place and then go back to the original topic. It annoys her family slightly but they have learnt to deal with it and find it amusing now more than frustrating like they used to.
Strengths: Researching, loving, persistent
Weaknesses: very anti-social, likes food too much
Likes: research, history, cooking, friends, family, pureblood traditions, knitting
Dislikes: laziness, disrespect, nosy young people
Motivation: To see future generations properly educated
Fears: Not being able to do the things she loves and enjoys
